Alberobello & Grottaglie, Italy

Alberobello in southern Italy is a World Heritage site known for it's Trulli houses. The houses are distinct because of the conical shape of the limestone roofs that is achieved without mortar. To make their houses bigger they just add on more cones. "All the symbols on the roof have a symbolic meaning" said the local shopowner when asked what the symbol on his roof meant. Well, that says it all.
