1 Car, 2 Bikes, 3 Mountain Passes, 4 Travelers

As most of you know, Rick likes to ride his bike over very high mountain passes made famous by the Tour de France and the Giro di Italia (multi week races in each of those countries). We have a pretty good system...he rides his bike...we take the car and act as his water and food team plus we are the best cheering section one could have.

This trip was to northern Italy with Rick's co-worker/biking partner Chris. Here is the pile in the entry way waiting to get loaded onto the car.

Securing the bikes

We drove about 8 hours north to the town of Bruzola in the Val de Susa which is only a few kilometers from the French border. The mountains were high and rugged and the scenery breathtaking. Here we stayed at a converted mill.
Chris, Rick and Eileen

We had to wait for our rooms to be readied so we strolled the town. Eileen found this rock sticking out of the side of a building...ahhhh, what good stories we could invent to explain this!!!!

This was some of the graffiti we saw next to a water well. It looks like a monk is praying in front of a water wheel. Maybe it was holy water!

Loved this mailbox with all the stamps.

One in particular caught our eye...Shanoah made it onto a stamp!!!

This bird creeped Eileen out! It would talk and whistle. She steered clear.

The view from our hotel looking up the Val de Susa towards the mountains and the Colle delle Finestre, the mountain pass Chris and Rick would climb the next day. Why this pass? Well, coincidentally, the lads in the Giro were going to be climbing it (at a much accelerated rate) hours after our guys.

Stay tuned to see how they made out!
