Trani Emergency Services

We were relaxing one evening when the noise of a crowd outside our window prompted us to see what was going on. There was an ambulance, a few different types of police cars and then a fire truck emerged.

Onlookers started to gather as the rescue squads ran around...

Here is the firetruck which blocked the end of the street. You may notice that there is a number to dial in emergencies printed on the truck. It is 115...not 911... There is also a different number for each of the different police units and a different number for the ambulance service. How they keep it all straight in an emergency is a bit confusing for me.

The situation appears to be that a resident of the building next to us called the emergency services but she was too weak to go to the door to let them in. The officials couldn't get anyone else in the building to buzz them in so they gathered their resources and forged on...

Some of the gathering crowds. By the time this event was finished there were a couple of hundred onlookers.

Now this interested us...The firefighters brought a ladder to reach the apartment balcony...the ladder was wooden! Do they use these ladders for a fire?? Also, the ladder came in pieces so the workers joined the pieces on the ground and then propped it up against the building

Here are the firefighters on the balcony. They have opened the green wooden outter shutters and are getting ready to break the glass of the inner door.

In a true spirit of community everyone cheered when the officials emerged from the entrance door and the ambulance crews rushed in. The firefighters were clapped on their backs and given encouraging words of support. When the lady of the house was brought down and put in the ambulance there was long and loud applause! So glad we got a front row seat!
